“Thinking about theology through film”

In a post-Christendom culture, few films on major release explicitly engage with themes of Christian theology. However, theological ideas have seeped deep into our collective imagination, and are often expressed in unexpected ways, and some of the deep questions explored by film-makers are more profoundly theological than they may realise. Tracing some of these connections opens a door to talking about faith through talking about film.

Mark Vasey-Saunders is Centre Head of St Hild Sheffield, and teaches theology and ministry. He also enjoys watching and talking about film.
